Event Description

Dive into confidence, safety, and fun with Making Waves – Vision Australia’s one-day learn-to-swim program designed especially for children and young people aged 0 to 25 who are blind or have low vision.

This full-day program is all about helping children and young people feel safe and confident in the water while building skills that go far beyond swimming. Whether your child is dipping their toes in the pool for the first time or already splashing with confidence and ready to refine their stroke, Making Waves meets them where they’re at.

Our approach is flexible, inclusive, and tailored to each swimmer. Using clear verbal instruction, hands-on guidance, and structured routines, our experienced instructors and therapists, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech pathologists, create a safe, supportive, and fun environment. Every participant learns at their own pace, explores new skills, and builds confidence step by step.

Making Waves also helps children develop sensory awareness, body confidence, independent movement skills, and social connection. These are all essential building blocks for participation in daily life, school, sport, and community activities.

Parents, carers, or support people are welcome to join, especially for our younger swimmers. We’ll also work with you to make sure any health, physical, or communication needs are supported so your child can get the most out of their time in the water.

Funded under NDIS Capacity Building supports, Making Waves is a fun, empowering, and practical way to build vital skills that last a lifetime.
